Thomas G. Poder is Assistant Professor at the Department of Management, Evaluation and Health Policy in the School of Public Health of the University of Montreal in Canada. Pr. Poder holds a Ph.D. in economics and is specialized in cost-benefit analysis. Particularly, he is interested in cost-utility analysis (CUA), health technology assessment (HTA), and health preference studies (HPS). At the School of public health at the University of Montreal he focuses on issues about effectiveness of new medical technologies and new ways of organizing care, as well as the efficiency of their use. In this regard, he is interested in evaluating technologies in different specialties, especially in mental health, as well as on how to measure interdisciplinary practice. Pr. Poder is also working to develop the measurement of health-related quality of life of patients under an economic focus (i.e., quality-adjusted life-year or QALY), to study the determinants of their health, and to value the benefits of medical interventions.
