Jianrong Zhang is a PhD Candidate (in general practice) in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne (Australia). Fully supported by Melbourne Research Scholarship, Jianrong is supervised by Prof. Jon Emery, MBBCh, MA, MRCGP, FRACGP, DPhil and Prof. Maarten IJzerman, BSc, MSc, PhD, to study the patterns of care for patients with lung cancer, at Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
In 2008-2016, Jianrong accomplished medicine degrees at Guangzhou Medical University (China), including clinical and research training (in thoracic surgery and oncology) supervised by Prof. Jianxing He, MD, PhD, FACS, FRCS at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University (National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease, State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease). In 2017-2019, he studied epidemiology as master of public health candidate, and learned health policy as Clark-Fox Policy Scholar, in Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis (USA). During this period, he taught biostatistics as teaching assistant at Brown School, completed his practicum as visiting scholar at Duke University School of Medicine (USA), and has started global research as collaborator in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study.
His main research interests include social epidemiology in cancer, global health, oncological clinical trials, preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic & surveillance strategies for lung cancer, and related policies. In 2014-2019, Jianrong had accomplished 44 publications (23 articles (e.g., Nature), 6 editorials, 15 conference abstracts) in peer-review journals, and several presentations at international conferences (e.g., WCLC, ESMO Asia, World CHEST Congress, SCT Annual Meeting).
Jianrong is also actively involved in academic communities. He is a member of several important academic societies (e.g., IASLC, ASCO, ATS, SCT, CHPAMS). As an editor in Annals of Translational Medicine, Annals of Cancer Epidemiology and Journal of Hospital Management and Health Policy, from 2016 to 2019 he had contributed to over 100 solicited editorials via collaboration with hundreds of top/well-established scholars around the world.
During his education and career, Jianrong always aims to maximize healthcare synergies between scientific & clinical practice, governmental administration and social networks for the improvement of public health, locally and globally.
